been on lockdown since 4:30 law-enforcement are trying to secure each building going room by room. to make sure that everybody is safe and trying to locate a man with a gun. somebody alerted o the word is that they f saw a man with a gun. authorities have not found that man yet but they're not taking any chances. we understand that certain buildings have been cleared with the exception of the science & technology buildings. they want to make sure that everybody is safe. this is video from abc seven sky abc high-definition video. vicki? >> this was from a twitter account from a san jose city college that police are

tracking a call from an anonymous source. it could be a prank but needless to say nobody wants to take any chances. the campus is still on lockdown. this student is huddled with about 60 people. and a woman called in from the career technology center. she was alerted by an automatic emergency response system that is activated a speaker. a message was broadcast about an emergency on broadcast. that is how people are being informed. she is at the tech center and they are watching to the windows. some of these evening students possibly could not have known about this that are on campus. they are alerting the students that are " side. from inside. and a father of one of the students, james bal oneowan.. saying that the

40's are advising students to " just run for it " saying that-authoritie are revising students and this student was also just evacuated. and bascom park street is blocked off. >> you have been checking with a social of media tell us about the facebook posting. >> it is interesting he has been giving us updated on the situation is able to communicate with his son. he said that his son is locked in one of the classrooms. this is when it just happened. with and just moments of the campus:on

lockdown. there are police, choppers, and the police said that yesterday there was a report of a man on a campus with a knife. people are of course nervous after the connecticut massacre. we just received this advisory they are assisting the city police and the, the police and the campus-police. it has not been confirmed but they are taking this very seriously. several people have called 911. as of 6:00 p.m., there have been no injuries or reports. and no gunman has been located and no gunfire has been heard which is an important point. the san jose police and the san jose college city college police are actively searching all the buildings.

with an active investigation going on. they are providing all of our mission to their 911 call center. all-information is being provided to the campus 911 call center. and this is a very fluid situation. the campus is still on the lockdown. >>pam: there is a lot of anxiety all over the country in light of what has happened in connecticut. certainly, there could be hoaxes and cruel pranks following the massacre. san jose city college has 18,000 students on campus. these are live pictures from sky 787. this is video also taken from sky 7 -- abc high-definition. again, this had started about 4:30. for

nearly two hours, it has been on lockdown. there are still staff and students on campus. they want to make sure it that they have cleared all buildings and no begun and are on campus. to make sure that everybody is safe and make sure that there is no gunman -- will keep you updated after this quick break.

looking at a video from abc seven this was shot earlier this evening. nonetheless, there are a number of law enforcement with the san jose police, campus police to. they are going to the campus buildings, class by class, room by room. to make sure that everyone is sake. you can imagine how tedious this is to make sure that everyone is -- safe, room by room. there was an automatic alert phone system on campus to make sure that they needed to stay in place. authorities are trying to determine if this is a real situation. or if this was a prank call in to authorities. we have the district chancellor.

>> thank-you. and please identify yourself. >> i am the doctor district chancellor. >> can you give us an update. >> around 4:45 we've received a text message from our service that there was an individual with a handgun. the campus police responded immediately. surely, there after they were assistejose police departmy were able to focus the search near the science and technology buildings. the lockdown immediately began with a student text messaging system. after the

area was limited to the buildings, the rest of the campus was evacuated to. class's of course are cancelled for this evening. and the police and the campus police are conducting a room by room search. at this point, no apprehension of any suspects. fortunately, there has been recent training for the campus police. i am in full confidence that they can handle this. just to be safe, just those two buildings are in those two buildings? >> ipad not sure how many classis and students per class -- i do not know how many -- classes are in those two buildings i do not want to guesstimate.

>>pam: there was a call that came into how your phone call about a knife? >> yes. there was a student that witnessed somebody with a knife. >>pam: was that able to confirmed? >> i would have to double mail. to see if that individual was apprehended. >>pam: at this point there is at not at all clear but you feel certain that these are the only to buildings, the science and technology buildings are the ones of concern. can you perhaps estimate how large those build buildings are? >> the tech facility has four different floors. the science building is much

larger than that. >> there is still a lot of ground they still have to cover? >> correct. >>pam: also that this could be a prank call. >> that is always a possibility. our campus police take every report seriously and they will respond appropriately. >> how long are they anticipating that this will clear these two buildings and to given a clear? >> i do not know. >> what is your concern that you have 18 the house and students that are registered for causes. and what is your concern as the leader of a school campus. particulate what happened in recently in connecticut? >> obviously, the tragedy in connecticut is impacting everybody and and morning.

we are in morning-and as we have learned and recent trading the gun violence is escalating out educational institutions. as the chancellor of its institutions it is significantly a concern of what must be done and what should be done. we have done preventative like active shooter training. and also campus exercises but of course that is not enough. i certainly hope that this is without incident this evening. i am confident that our police are trained to handle that. >>pam: you are not able to or estimate how many students could be impacted how about the number of staff? >> i would relate not be able to share with you information like that unless

i was sure. but i did check the police report of the individual brandishing a knife and was checked out. the report was made but nobody was identified. >>pam: thank you. i know that you have a busy night ahead of you. one last question are you a anticipating the classes will be open tomorrow? >> we will send out a notice. and we are able to do that and a very short notice. i suspect that we will be able to finalize this so students need access. >>pam: doctor, thank you so much for your time in the update. we appreciate that and again to clarify for our audience, the campus at san jose city college has been on lockdown for over two

hours. all of the buildings have been cleared with the exception of the tech building of the science of building. authorities are going floor by floor searching to make sure that there are no gunman. and to make sure that everybody is safe. the rest of the campus has been given a all clear we will be back.

still students and staff and those two buildings and they are on the lockdown pending an all clear from authorities as they illustrated they are taking this threat seriously. at the same time the are investigating weather or not weather or not this could have been a prank call. there have been many reported following the tragedy in connecticut. there have been a number of hoaxes and authorities are wondering weather or not this is one of them but nonetheless, they're taking the proper precautions. most of the campus has been released but nonetheless, there are the technology and science buildings that are still on the lockdown, there are students and staff members. they are waiting for the all clear. the

americans the alert system text messaging went to students earlier today. to put everybody on alert. and making sure that all of the staff members were informed of what was going on area has been cleared and 80. also, a has an update. >> the calls have been streaming and we've been checking out social media. there has been a phone call that she is with about 60 people. catherine on what to do. we also received a call at the business/marketing division at the career

technology center. i believe that is the tech building. he is with a smaller building because this is at the end of the day the transition from the daytime students in we were able to see the website.. the college time and it said that the alert system went out at 5:805 for all students, faculty and staff are advised to turn off the lights and remain quiet. helicopters were dispatched and a swat team was on the campus. the officers were visible outside of the technology center of bascom with their

weapons drawn. the police closed moorpark avenue they still have no confirmation but he is reported to be on the third floor. the police are continuing to search for the suspect. no reports of shots fired. and this is just and san jose city college. john marionon saying that there could be a prank there could be still a prank but we are continuing to fall less. >>pam: but they cannot afford to take any chances. it is unfortunate that there even is a gunman on campus at second that somebody would call a prank at such a sensitive time, in

particular of what happened in connecticut last week. as the nation is still dealing with that tragedy. to have these episodes keeping everybody anxious and on edge. we have a reporter in the area and most of the campus has been cleared. those buildings that vicki mentioned the city council police and the san jose police and reggie kumar is on the foamphone. reggie? >> yes, there is a heavy police presence, pam. they are turning people around and not allowing people to enter the campus. as you can imagine, the president has said that there is no evidence of a gunman on campus. just a report of a

gunman on campus but no evidence of shots fired. they have not found the gunman. besides the science and technical they are on partial lock down. at this point, students are being turned around even the students that are here to take their final exams, and night time. >>pam: students must be perplexed by what is going on. >> i would imagine i've not been able to speak with them. but this is finals week and with a report of a gunman on campus there on edge. >>pam: we understand that the students alert system for campuses class tomorrow. how can you provide the

scope of the police presence? >>reporter: there are several at the entrance. i also saw some of them holding weapons. the officer told me that everything is being routed to a different direction. at this point they're not even along the media. this possible, and being on campus. at this point, very heavy police presence. >>pam: because of the rush hour difficulty getting to san jose. and it is traffic just being rerouted away from the campus? can you tell us what streets are impacted? >> moorpark and turner. there is a police
